CSTEM (communication, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a pioneer in education and an innovative staple in the greater Houston community doing the work necessary to successfully engage school districts in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
The National CSTEM Challenge is a Pre K-12 pipeline design that involves elementary, middle, and high schools in partnering school districts in a real-world challenge through the integration of communication, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The learning activities and experiences enrich and enhance existing curriculum by connecting classrooms during the instructional day and after-school. Our innovative model creates Pre K-12 teams that work collaboratively on this hands-on interdisciplinary project to problem-solve and design artifact solutions.
This annual challenge connects with the community through the use of an essential theme, Everyone is an Artist and an Engineer. Through state recognized focused teacher training, students engage in a seven month learning experience that culminates with the production of student artifacts that are judged at our annual competition hosted at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The students experience STEM learning and compete in areas of geographical information systems using GPS, web design, green living, robotics, sculptures, murals, creative writing and oral presentations.
